I am interested in finding the intersection between the subject and what I want to express—the emotion, the poignancy, the suspension between states.
I am a studio and plein-air painter. Working outside requires speed and flexibility to respond to the changing light conditions and environment to accomplish your goal; working inside provides the time to take the artwork in multiple directions. Plein air landscape painting is appealing to me as I like being in the midst of the scene – right up close to the aromatic plants, the animal life, and experiencing the wind & weather directly. This gives one an intimate and grounded feeling of the place which informs the image and hopefully creeps into the paintings.
Micaela sells her work online and in galleries and is currently available for small commissions. Some of her current commissions include lively portraits of grandchildren, to be hung on the wall and enjoyed for generations to come.
