The snow has been fun - since we are coastal Californians and don't have to slog through it very often! A friend sent me a photo of dog-walking in Minnesota and it reminded me of some of those wonderful snow scenes that the impressionists did. The Magpie, by Monet, is my favorite - so peaceful. I've never painted snow before, that I remember, so thought I'd give it a try. #dogpainting #dogpaintingsofinstagram #contemporaryimpressionism #art #oilpainting
...practicing more metallic surfaces. I admire people who can do the "lost edges" - while trying to "get" the shapes I really lose the lost-ness!
After avoiding getting Covid during the past few years, I went to one celebration too many--and caught it. While this is a mild version, it still threw me over for a full 4 days. I'm giving it another week.
Day 2 of 10. Another oldie. Inspired by my practice in brush / ink, the beauty of the Big Sur coast, and some writing: Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream, the Trilogy by Tolkien, and some wonderful old Oz books by L Frank Baum, I created this fantasy scene. It was just practice, it never felt finished, and I found things "wrong" about it. My mother saved it. Where did the palm trees come from? - I have no idea!
oldies - practice and sketches from <what decade?> - want to guess? Rita Sklar invited me to share 10 works in 10 days, so, starting with the oldest...
Stainless steel-yikes! I was hesitant to try it, definitely fine over an old painting. ‘You have to start somewhere department’ as my mother might have said

working shipyard

Several years ago I started this painting, finally got back there last week. It is a busy shipyard, with workers biking and golf-carting themselves back and forth on the piers. There was spray-painting, pounding, banging and shouting going on.

painting of Bay Ship shipyard.
